Maria Sharapova wins Porsche Tennis Grand Prix title for third straight year, beats Ivanovic

Maria Sharapova drove home with yet another Porsche car on Sunday after she won the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix title for the third straight year. The Russian tennis superstar battled back from set down to outlast former top-ranked Ana Ivanovic 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to win her 30th career WTA title.

Sharapova needed to reach at least the semifinal of this Premier-level event to retain her place in the world’s top ten. However, she went a step further. She almost made an early exit at this event earlier this week when she battled past Lucie Safarova in the opening round via a third set tiebreaker.

Sharapova was the favorite in the final with a 7-2 head to head series lead over Ivanovic. The Serbian came out firing in the first set 3-6 and was just a point away from making another huge 4-1 lead in the second before Sharapova pounced and snatched the momentum.

Sharapova, a global ambassador of Porsche, received yet another car from the automaker since the winner gets to win a car plus €96,774 in prize money.
