Roger Federer accepts wild card for Monte Carlo Masters 2014

World number four Roger Federer has accepted a wild card for next week’s Monte Carlo Masters tournament in Monaco. The ATP 1000 Masters event features eight-time champion Rafael Nadal and defending champion Novak Djokovic. This will be the Swiss star’s first appearance at this event since 2011 when he lost in the quarterfinals.

Federer is aiming to win his first title at this event. He finished runner-up three times in the past, losing those three matches to Nadal (2006 to 2008).

Federer’s last claycourt title was back in 2012 when he won the Madrid Masters title.
