Roger Federer may miss French Open 2014 if wife gives birth by then

World number four Roger Federer said that he’s going to put fatherhood as topmost priority rather than the French Open tournament. The Swiss tennis superstar said that he will be at his wife Mirka’s side for the birth of their third child should this take place during the Roland Garros tournament.

Federer has taken part in a record 57 straight Grand Slam tournaments. The last time that he missed a Major event was the US Open backn in 1999.

“It’s a priority for me to be there (at the birth) to support my wife,” Federer was quoted as saying in last week’s Monte Carlo Masters.

“I’ve played enough tennis matches. Missing a tournament or missing a match wouldn’t change anything for me.”

Federer and Mirka became parents to twins Myla Rose and Charlene Riva in July 2009. The 32-year old revealed in December that they are expecting another child in 2014. He has yet to confirm when’s the due date for his wife and as to whether they will expect another set of twins.
