Victoria Azarenka out of Madrid, Rome – may also miss French Open

Former top-ranked Victoria Azarenka announced that she will miss the upcoming Premier claycourt events at Madrid and Rome next month. This may mean that she’ll also miss the French Open 2014 tournament. The Belarussian has been dealing with a left foot injury. She played a month ago at Indian Wells but lost in the early rounds.

“Just wanted to give everyone an update on my recovery. Working hard to get fit again. Will be in touch soon…,” Azarenka said via her Twitter account.

She also posted a link to a video making the announcement as well:

Madrid Open begins on May 3 and the Italian Open in Rome starts on May 12. The Roland Garros tournament will commence on May 25.

The two-time Australian Open champion and two-time US Open finalist is currently ranked number four.
