Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2014 tennis faces uncertain future

In an update that was just posted today via their official Facebook Page, the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2014 tennis is facing an uncertain future following discussions being made by tournament owner, IMG.

“After a very long road and much consideration and thought, IMG are in the final stages of discussion and will be making some very tough decisions in regards to the future of this tournament next week,” the organizers posted on their Facebook page.

The Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2014 tournament is scheduled to take place from September 22 to September 28. This ATP 250 hardcourt event signals the start of the Asian swing of tournaments. The Thailand Open, which usually takes place on the same week, has staged its final edition last year with the rights now being sold to Shenzhen, China. The inaugural Shenzhen Open takes place on September 22.

The Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur started in 2009 with Nikolay Davydenko being the event’s first champion followed by Mikhail Youzhny (2010); Janko Tipsarevic (2011); Juan Monaco (2012) and Joao Sousa (2013).
