Novak Djokovic aims for Madrid Masters return despite wrist worries

World number two Novak Djokovic is aiming for a return at the Madrid Masters 2014 tournament which begins on Sunday, May 4. The Serbian tennis star has a mathematical chance of reclaiming the number one ranking if he wins the Masters 1000 claycourt event.

“Fortunately, the situation with the injury is better than it first seemed,” Djokovic said via his official website. Djokovic lost his title defense at the Monte Carlo Masters to Roger Federer in the semifinals.

“Doctors assured me that I will be ready for Madrid, then Rome and Roland Garros, just as it has been planned.

“However, I need to continue with the recovery process and full medical treatments. It means I will have to take a short break in order to recover as soon as possible.”

Djokovic is aiming to win his first French Open title in a bid to achieve a career Grand Slam. The Roland Garros title is the only one missing in his collection of Grand Slam singles titles.
