Sara Errani posts first win over Li Na to reach Italian Open semifinals

Italy’s top-ranked female tennis player Sara Errani advanced to the Italian Open semifinals for the second consecutive year after posting her first career victory over world number two Li Na 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 on Friday. The 10th-seeded star aims to become the first Italian female tennis player since Raffaella Reggi to win this Premier title. Reggi won the event 29 years ago.

Li Na was noticeably inconsistent in the match, having committed a staggering 52 unforced errors versus Errani’s 21.

Errani was clearly happy with the win, having gone 0-6 against the Chinese tennis star. She will next face two-time champion Jelena Jankovic or world number three Agnieszka Radwanska.
