Stanislas Wawrinka takes Queen’s Club wildcard after early Roland Garros exit

World number three Stanislas Wawrinka has taken a wildcard at the upcoming Queen’s Club tournament after losing his opening round match at the Roland Garros 2014 tournament this week. The reigning Australian Open champion was scheduled to compete at Wimbledon without any warm-up grasscourt events. He decided to participate at a warm-up tournament since he has two extra weeks off due to the French Open exit.

“I’m looking forward to playing the Aegon championships,” said Wawrinka. “It is an important tournament with a lot of history, and playing at Queen’s Club gives me the best possible chance to become comfortable on grass.”

Wawrinka lost to Guillermo Garcia Lopez at the French Open and the Swiss number one admitted that there’s a “need to put the ‘puzzle’ back together, find solutions, because the pressure is different. I’m not saying I have more pressure, but the pressure is different.”
