Two-time champion Jelena Jankovic advances to Rome semis, beats Radwanska

Two-time Italian Open champion Jelena Jankovic is through to the semifinals of the Premier Mandatory claycourt tournament after scoring a victory over third-ranked Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 6-4, 6-4. Up next for the Serbian tennis star is hometown favorite Sara Errani.

“Today I played well tactically,” Jankovic said. “I was able to wait for my chances and execute my shots at the right time, which was very important. The rain made the courts a little slower, and I thought that suited her more than me, but I handled that well.

“Tomorrow against Errani it’s going to be a very tough match. She’s the local favorite and will have the crowd on her side, but I already experienced that against Pennetta, so I know what to expect. It’s going to be a physical match. I have to stay focused and calm and try to play my game and do what I do best.

“It’s so wonderful to have three Serbs in the semifinals since Novak won as well. Hopefully, we can all win and have three finalists. I wish them a lot of luck.”

Jankovic has a 1-1 head to head series record over Errani.
