Novak Djokovic sweeps past Tsonga to reach French Open quarterfinals

Second-ranked Novak Djokovic advanced to his 20th Grand Slam quarterfinal in a row on Sunday after eliminating Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-1, 6-4, 6-1 in the Roland Garros 2014 fourth round encounter. Djokovic now has a 12-5 head to head series record over Tsonga.

“I didn’t go through happy moments today,” said Tsonga. “It was not fun for me. It was tough. I didn’t have time to go for my shots. I didn’t get off to a good start. Then against this type of player, things started to deteriorate. He played better and better.”

Djokovic will next face Milos Raonic of Canada for a place in the semifinal. The Serbian clearly is the favorite, having won their past two meetings but Raonic is not to be underestimated. Djokovic could reclaim the world number one ranking with a win in Paris. He’s currently on a nine-match win streak following the title victory at Rome Masters where he defeated Rafael Nadal for the title.
