Rally for Bally to take place June 15

The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) is encouraging everyone to provide their support for the Rally For Bally event, a fundraising activity that will take place on Sunday, June 15. There will be a series of exhibition matches taking place. This activity is in memory of tennis star Elena Baltacha, fondly called as “Bally” by friends and family.

The Rally for Bally will feature popular tennis stars such as Andy Murray, Martina Navratoliva, Agnieszka Radwanska, Petra Kvitova and Marion Bartoli. These players will be playing mixed doubles matches in three grasscourt events in Birmingham, Eastbourne and Queen’s Club in London. The funds that will be raised in this event will proceed to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and Elena Baltacha Foundation.

“Rally For Bally is a great way to celebrate the never ending contributions Elena Baltacha has made to the game of tennis,” Stacey Allaster, the Chairman & CEO of the WTA, said.

“The WTA family is committed to keeping Bally’s dream, memory and legacy alive and through our efforts we hope to mobilize our fan base to give generously to this vitally important cause.”

Aside from the Rally for Bally, the WTA will be conducting a fundraising wherein players, tournaments and staff worldwide will make donations directly to the Elena Baltacha Foundation.

Baltacha was a former number one British player. She was diagnosed with liver cancer a few months after retiring from the sport. She died on May 4, 2014 at the age of 30.
