Roger Federer believes Mauresmo a good choice as Murray’s coach

Swiss tennis superstar Roger Federer believes that former professional tennis player Amelie Mauresmo is a good choice as Andy Murray’s new coach. Murray has been coachless for the past few months after he and erstwhile coach Ivan Lendl parted ways earlier this year. The defending Wimbledon champion became one of the few top male players to work with a female coach.

“I think it is very interesting. I think it’s great and only time will tell if it is going to be successful or not,” said Federer. “But Andy has always been open to try out things or go in a different direction with Lendl, with Brad Gilbert as well, and now with Amelie Mauresmo.”

Mauresmo previously coached Michael Llodra.

“I think she is very sweet,” Federer said. “I remember being at the Champions dinner with her at one of my Wimbledon victories.

“I always enjoyed watching her play and she is a true professional. So from that standpoint, I think it’s a great choice and I hope they’re going to be a successful team together.”
