Sara Errani beats Jankovic to reach French Open quarterfinals

Former finalist Sara Errani advanced to her third consecutive Roland Garros quarterfinal after outplaying Jelena Jankovic 7-6, 6-2. The 2012 Paris runner-up won the important points to seal the first set on a tiebreak. She went on to break the Serb’s serve at the start of the second and never looked back.

“It was an unbelievably tough match today,” the Italian said. “All the points were very tough. I just tried to be focused. I was 4-1 up and then she started to play much better and it was not easy to stay there with her. Of course, it was very important to win that first set. I’m so happy to get through to the quarterfinals here again.”

Errani will next face Andrea Petkovic of Germany for a spot in the semifinals. Petkovic advanced to the final eight after a three-set victory over qualifier Kiki Bertens of Netherlands.
