Sugarpova vs Halepeño battle for French Open title, €1.65 million prize money

The highly anticipated French Open 2014 ladies’ singles final match between Maria Sharapova and Simona Halep will take place on Saturday, June 7. Maria Sharapova, also known for her highly successful business venture Sugarpova will face off against red-hot Simona Halep of Romania. Halep was given the monicker Halepeño by tennis journalists because despite her 5’6″ stature, she can make major damage to her opponents just like jalapeño which despite its size has a lot of kick.

There’s a lot at stake this weekend with the winner grabbing the number one spot in the WTA Finals 2014 Road to Singapore leaderboard. Sharapova will take the number one spot if she wins the title while Halep will rise to number three. Halep will become number one if she wins the Roland Garros title while Sharapova will take the number two spot.

In the calendar year WTA rankings, Sharapova is assured a ranking rise to number six with the final appearance and number five ranking with the title win. Halep is already assured a career-high ranking of number three regardless of the result in the final.

Of course, it wouldn’t hurt that these ladies are fighting for a €1.65 million paycheck and the runner-up won’t be short-changed with €825,000.
