2014 US Open offers record-setting $38.2 million prize money

The 2014 US Open offers record-setting $38.2 million prize money, an increase of $4 million from last year’s overall prize purse. The winners of the men’s and women’s singles competitions will each receive $3 million in prize money and a chance to add $1 million should they also win the US Open 2014 series. Last year, the US Open champions Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams took home $3.6 million each – $2.6 million as the prize money and additional $1 million for dominating during the US Open series. Will they be able to match this feat this year or will there be someone else who will do the honors?

“Last year, to recognize the importance of the players and the key role they have in building our sport, the USTA shared our vision to reach $50 million in prize money at the US Open by 2017,” said USTA President and US Open Chairman Dave Haggerty. “This year’s prize money increase continues the commitment to make the US Open one of the most lucrative purses in all of sports.”

Each round of the singles events will see players receiving at least a 10 percent increase from 2013 payouts. Here’s the round by round breakdown with the amounts in parentheses as last year’s payout.
