Del Potro resumes practice, comeback imminent

Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro has resumed his practice sessions and was seen hitting backhands following a wrist surgery back in March 2014. Del Potro himself gave an update on his progress via his official Facebook page.

“I have great news to share,” Del Potro wrote. “Four months after the surgery I hit my first few backhands and my doctor Richard Berger was there.”

Del Potro had a promising start of the season which saw him winning the Sydney International title. However, his left wrist starting bothering him which forced him to pull out of his opening match at the Dubai Tennis Championships back in February. He decided to undergo surgery to correct the injury, the same scenario that happened when he had surgery for his right wrist back in 2010.

“I’m looking forward to playing pain-free again as soon as possible. Thanks for your support.”

Del Potro won his lone Grand Slam singles title at the US Open back in 2009. He is slated to make a comeback at the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur in September.
