Istanbul to host ATP 250 claycourt event starting 2015

The ATP revealed on Tuesday this week that the Turkey’s largest city Istanbul will be hosting an ATP 250 claycourt event starting in 2014. Turkey will be staging its first-ever ATP event which will take place from April 27 to May 3 in 2015.

The tournament is named Garanti Koza Istanbul Open with the players competing against each other at the state-of-the-art Koza World of Sports facility, known as the largest tennis academy in the world. The venue boasts of a centre court that has a retractable roof and can seat up to 7,500 people.

“We are delighted that the ATP World Tour will be taking place in Turkey for the first time from 2015. This incredible new facility in Istanbul will make a wonderful addition to the many remarkable venues that feature on the ATP World Tour throughout the season. As we add an important market such as Turkey to our global footprint, the ATP World Tour will be set to take place across 62 tournaments in 32 countries in 2015,” said ATP Executive Chairman and President Chris Kermode.
