John Isner leads US Open Series 2014 standings with Atlanta win

John Isner of United States grabbed an early lead in the US Open Series 2014 after successfully defending the Atlanta Open title on Sunday with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Dudi Sela of Israel.

The victory means Isner garnered 70 points in the US Open Series Bonus Challenge standings. The top three placers in the standings could get up to $1 million in bonus prize money depending on how they’ll fare at the US Open next month. Isner has committed to play in all US Open Series events which increases his chances of winning.

“This is my favourite time of year,” the 12th-ranked said. “I’m off to a very good start again. I look forward to playing Washington D.C. again. I’ve played well there my whole career.”

This is Isner’s ninth career ATP title. Meanwhile, Sela reached his first ATP final in nearly six years. His last title-match appearance was at the China Open in Beijing back in 2008 where he lost to Andy Roddick.
