July 9 marks 100 days to WTA Finals 2014 Singapore

The WTA Finals 2014 Singapore is now just exactly 100 days away and tennis fans are given a preview on what’s in store for the prestigious year-end championships at the Southeast Asian nation, which will be hosting this event for the next five years.

On July 9th, the 100-day countdown was launched wherein a coundown clock was shown to the media and public at the OCBC Bank Center located on Chulia Street.

The WTA Finals has been expanded into a 10-day event with the pre-tournament festivities starting on October 17. The competitions officially begin on October 20 and will conclude on October 26 with qualified players competing for a record $6.5 million in prize money.

There are eight spots availabe for the singles field and for the first time, the tournament will feature eight doubles teams. In the past, only four teams qualify for the doubles competition.

The WTA Finals have been staged in major cities worldwide such as Boca Raton, Los Angeles, New York City, Oakland, Munich, Madrid, Doha and most recently, Istanbul in Turkey. For the first time, an Asia-Pacific nation will host this year-end event.
