Novak Djokovic aims to reverse Slam final losses

World number two Novak Djokovic is through to his 14th Grand Slam final. However, the Serbian tennis superstar has lost five out of his last six Grand Slam finals. His last Grand Slam victory was at the 2013 Australian but he would go on to lose his next three finals – at the 2013 Wimbledon, 2013 US Open and 2014 Roland Garros. The world number two has won a total of six Grand Slam titles, one of them the Wimbledon title back in 2011.

“There is plenty of motivation from my side to win this Grand Slam final. It would mean a lot mentally for me,” Djokovic said after defeating Grigor Dimitrov in the semifinals on Friday.

“I don’t want to sound like I’m not appreciating playing the finals of a Grand Slam. It’s already a huge result. We cannot take that for granted,” he added. “I know that I can win the title. I should have won a few of the matches that I lost in the finals of Grand Slams in the past couple of years.”

“Things have to come together for you to win a Grand Slam. That’s why not that many players throughout history have done that. Federer for example, winning so many Grand Slams. It’s a remarkable achievement. Hopefully I can get the title in two days and start a new nice series of winning Grand Slam titles.”

Djokovic will face Roger Federer of Switzerland for the title on Sunday. Federer, a seven-time champion at the All England Club, will be gunning for a record-extending 18th Grand Slam title.

“I have been going through some tough matches during this tournament,” said Djokovic. “But there is a reason for me going through these experiences and fighting through it. I’m going to try to use that experience in a positive way and encourage myself to get a title.

“It’s important when you lose a set or two sets to be able to bounce back and recover from that. I’ve done that, and that’s a positive that I’m taking from these matches.”
