Novak Djokovic first to qualify for ATP World Tour Finals 2014

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic became the first player to qualify for the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals by virtue of winning the Wimbledon 2014 title. Djokovic returned to world number one following his victory at the All England Club for the second time. He will have a chance to play for a fourth ATP World Tour Finals which takes place in London from November 9 to 16 in London.

Djokovic garnered enough ranking points to dethrone Nadal at the top of the rankings summit and now begins his 102nd week at the top of the world rankings.

“It feels great not only to win Wimbledon again but also to return to No. 1 in the ATP Rankings. I got to No. 1 for the first time in my career after winning Wimbledon in 2011 so it is nice to do it again here. I can’t wait to return to London to defend the ATP [World Tour] Finals title. I have had a good run there in the past two years. I really enjoy playing at The O2.”

The 27-year qualified for the year-end championships for the eighth time. He won the title back in 2008 (defeated N. Davydenko in Shanghai), and 2012 (defeated R. Federer) and 2013 (defeated R. Nadal) both events in London.

“We are delighted that Novak has become the first player to book his place at this year’s Barclays ATP World Tour Finals at The O2 in London. He is having an outstanding season and is fully deserving of his place as current World No.1. Fans in the UK and around the world will already be looking forward to welcoming back this year’s Wimbledon champion to London in November, where he’ll be looking to win a third successive season-ending title,” said ATP Executive Chairman and President Chris Kermode.
