Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas won his maiden title on Sunday after defeating Joao Sousa of Portugal in the final of the SkiStar Swedish Open in Bastad. The final score was 6-2, 6-1 in a match that lasted 59 minutes.

“This is an amazing week,” said Cuevas. “Today I played unbelievably. I’m so happy to win my first title. This city is beautiful and for sure I’ll be back next year.”

Cuevas joins Federico Delbonis (Sao Paulo) and Roberto Bautista Agut (‘s-Hertogenbosch) as first time winners this season. Agut would go on to win his second title this week (read related title).

Cuevas, ranked 111th prior to the tournament, missed the entire 2012 season due to a knee surgery. He would mount a successful comeback highlighted with his eighth ATP Challenge Tour title in March.

Sousa was aiming to win his second career title. His maiden victory was at the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur tournament in 2013.
