Petra Kvitova surges in Road to Singapore standings

Czech tennis star Petra Kvitova has not made it past the semifinals since the start of the season which left her standings for the year-end WTA Finals in doubt. However, her remarkable run at last week’s Wimbledon Championships, where she won the title for the second time has made her a strong contender for the year-end event.

Her victory at the All England Club saw Kvitova’s Road To Singapore standings surge to number five which makes her a contender for one of the eight slots available in the singles competition.

For the first time in WTA history, an Asia-Pacific nation will be hosting the year-end WTA Finals. Singapore will be the host nation of this event from 2014 to 2018.

Kvitova won her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2011 and interestingly, she would go on to win the year-end Championships that year. Would she be able to achieve the same feat this season? She, however, will need to post strong results in the next few months to guarantee her place in this prestigious competition.
