Simona Halep’s first Wimbledon semifinal

World number three Simona Halep continues her spectacular run this season after reaching her first Wimbledon semifinal. The Romanian, who reached the Roland Garros final last month, beat last year’s finalist Sabine Lisicki at the All England Club with an impressive 6-4, 6-0 scoreline.

“I was a little bit lost on court. But only in the beginning,” Halep said. “Then I tried to keep the rallies going more, just taking it point by point. I did really well and I came back very well. I found a way to play my style – I stayed very aggressive, very close to the baseline, and I stuck to my tactics. I opened the court very well and used the angles when I could.”

Halep will have a chance to make it to her second consecutive Grand Slam final but she will have to get past 13th seed Eugenie Bouchard of Canada. Bouchard holds the distinction as the only player this season to reach three consecutive Grand Slam semifinals. Bouchard defeated Angelique Kerber in the other semifinal on Wednesday. Halep has a 1-0 head to head series lead over Bouchard with that lone victory coming from the Indian Wells earlier this year.
