Caroline Wozniacki signs up for 2014 New York City Marathon

Danish tennis superstar Caroline Wozniacki will be taking part in the upcoming New York City Marathon despite having a hectic tennis schedule ahead of her.

The former world number one has been preparing for the event.

“Tennis helped me just get through the tough times,” Wozniacki said Thursday. “Now I’m just feeling happy and I wanted to do something good for others. I think that this had nothing really to do with my personal life. It was something I was passionate about.”

Wozniacki said that she will be representing Team for Kids which helps New York Road Runners’ youth programs. New York Road Runners is the organizers of the NYC marathon.

“People ask me, ‘Why don’t you just run a 5K or 10K?’ I’m like, ‘Well, I do that all the time, so it wouldn’t really be a challenge,'” she said. “This is really something I need to put my mind to.”

Wozniacki is currently in New York. She’s slated to compete at the Rogers Cup tournament in Montreal next week and she’ll be back in the Big Apple in time for the US Open later in August.
