“Genie Army” gets accreditation, accommodation for Rogers Cup

It may have been a short-lived campaign for Eugenie Bouchard at this week’s Rogers Cup but her newly established fan club called “Genie Army” still had a memorable visit in Canada.

According to a report, some of the members of the “Genie Army” who cheered on Bouchard during the Australian Open tournament earlier this year received accreditation and accomodation at this week’s Rogers Cup in Montreal. Tennis Canada, the organization that runs both the WTA and ATP events in Canada, reportedly offered to shoulder the travel expenses or board and lodging for the fans from Australia.

WTA CEO Stacey Allaster hinted to the press that she wants to bring the “Genie Army” at the year-end championships in Singapore should Bouchard qualify. However, she hasn’t committed on shouldering the expenses.

“We want to bring the Genie Army there.”

The “Genie Army” club formed in Melbourne when Bouchard made a stunning run to the semifinals at the Australian Open. Six out of the 12 original members of the group were in Montreal according to a Toronto Sun report.
