Juan Martin del Potro withdraws from US Open

2009 champion Juan Martin del Potro has officially pulled out of the US Open Tennis Championships 2014 which begins on August 25. The Argentine cited his left wrist injury as the reason for the withdrawal.

Del Potro has missed a significant chunk of the season after undergoing wrist surgery last March. Back in 2010, he was unable to defend the US Open title due to an injury to his right wrist.

Currently ranked 11th in the world, del Potro has been posting updates about his recovery and has committed to take part in the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2014 tournament which begins in late September.

Taking his place in the draw is Italy’s Simone Bolelli.
