Lukas Rosol wins Winston-Salem 2014 title

Lukas Rosol of Czech Republic won his second career title on Saturday after defeating Jerzy Janowicz of Poland at the Winston-Salem Open. Rosol saved two match en route to a 3-6, 7-6, 7-5 win.

“I just focused on my games, especially while I was serving,” said Rosol. “I waited patiently to see if he would give me a chance on his serve, and he did. I didn’t start out well, but I finished strong.”

Janowicz acknowledged that Rosol’s serve worked well in the game.

“[Players] can make a comeback, whatever the score,” Janowicz said. “[Rosol] served well.

“Losses happen. This is not my first – and hopefully will not be my last – final. I’m looking forward to the next tournament. I am playing well. I had a great week here in Winston-Salem,” he added.

Rosol won $80,280 plus 250 ranking points for the win and will rise to a career-high world number 27 in the rankings on Monday. Janowicz received $45,705 and 150 ranking points and will see his ranking surge from number 52 to 43.

In doubles, unseeded team Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal capped off a dream week after ousting third seed John Peers and Jamie Muray 6-3, 6-4.

“It was a great tournament for us. We played very well from the start,” said Farah. “Today was a great match. We served very well, returned well. Sebas returned very well, and thats why we came away with the big trophy.”
