Roger Federer beats Raonic to reach Cincinnati Masters final

Swiss tennis superstar Roger Federer advanced to the Cincinnati Masters 2014 final after a straightforward 6-2, 6-3 win over Canada’s Milos Raonic on Saturday.

The 33-year old will face 32-year old David Ferrer of Spain in the final slated on Sunday. Ferrer defeated surprise semifinalist Julien Benneteau of France in the other semifinal. Federer has a 15-0 head to head series lead over the Spaniard.

“I’m playing much better [than] last year. I can move freely again,” Federer said an interview with ESPN after the match. “I’m happy the results show. It’s more fun playing this way. Now I am playing the right away.

Federer will be gunning for his 80th career ATP title and sixth title in Cincinnati alone – having won the event in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2012. He came from a runner-up finish at Toronto Masters last weekend.

“It’s great for the confidence to switch from clay to grass to hard courts and keep on playing well. I’ve had a very complete season so far,” Federer said. “This is my eighth final of the season. I hope I can win another final here.”

“I served very poorly tonight, and that’s not going to get it done,” Raonic said. “I have to figure out how to step up against the top guys. Roger’s been playing great this summer. He’s getting better and better with each match. I have to play better in these matches.”
