Ana Ivanovic reigns in Tokyo, wins fourth title of 2014

Former world number one Ana Ivanovic secured her fourth title of the 2014 season after winning the Toray Pan Pacific Open title on Sunday, defeating fellow former top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki 6-2, 7-6. Being a Premier-level event, Ivanovic earns 480 ranking points which puts her in strong position to secure one of the five remaining berths for the WTA Finals slated next month.

“Caroline played a great match today,” Ivanovic said the mathc. “It was a really good battle out there – there were some very tough moments, especially in the second set. But I just tried to take it one point at a time, and I’m really happy to make it through. It’s just an amazing feeling to win this title.”

The victory on Sunday is Ivanovic’s 52nd match win of the season. This is her 15th career WTA title.

“I’m really happy that this is one step closer to the WTA Finals in Singapore,” Ivanovic said.

“It’s coming close and everything’s on the line.”
