Karolina Pliskova wins Korea Open title

Czech Republic’s Karolina Pliskova won her second career title on Sunday after winning the Kia Korea Open in Seoul. Pliskova defeated Varvara Lepchenko of United States 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 in a match that lasted two hours and 11 minutes to win her first title of the season. This is definitely fourth time lucky for the young tennis star after having lost her three previous finals this year (Pattaya City, Nurnberg, Hong Kong).

Pliskova’s first career title happened last year at Kuala Lumpur. As for Lepchenko, it was her first career WTA final and along the way she defeated top seed and world number five Agnieszka Radwanska in the quarterfinals.

In doubles, Irina-Camelia Begu and Lara Arruabarrena triumphed over Mandy Minella and Mona Barthel 6-3, 6-3 in the final.

“This was our first time playing together, so we’re really happy to win,” Begu said. “Lara has so many different skills on the court, like good drop shots and great volleys. She’s really talented.

“We really enjoyed our whole week in Korea and will have lots of good memories.”
