Maria Sharapova looks forward to visiting Philippines for IPTL

Russian tennis superstar Maria Sharapova will be visiting the Philippines for the first time in her career. She will become part of the Manila Mavericks of the newly-created International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) tournament. The IPTL Manila leg will take place from November 28 to 30 at the SM Mall of Asia arena.

The sixth-ranked tennis megastar shared a short video message expressing her excitement to become part of the event.

“I just wanted to say how excited I am to finally be coming all the way to the Philippines for the first time in my career. I’m gonna be playing for the Manila Mavericks so I hope all of you gets the chance to watch me play and support me and of course, hope for the win,” Sharapova said.

Sharapova will be joined by Andy Murray, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Daniel Nestor, Kirsten Flipkens, Carlos Moya and Treat Huey, the top tennis player from the Philippines.

The star-studded IPTL event features the big names in tennis such as Serena Williams, Ana Ivanovic, Eugenie Bouchard, Danilela Hantuchova, Thoms Berdych, Lleyton Hewitt, Patrick Rafter, Nick Kyrgios, Gael Monfils, Fabrice Santoro, Richard Gasquet and Goran Ivanisevic.

The Mavericks will be playing against Singapore Slammers, UAE Royals and Indian Aces with the winning getting $1 million in prize money.

Tickets are now on sale for the manila event with the lowest rate set at 2,500 pesos for General Admission and 49,000 pesos for the VIP section.
