Victoria Azarenka to miss rest of 2014 season

Former top-ranked Victoria Azarenka announced on Sunday that she will be taking a much needed break from tennis and will miss the rest of the 2014 season. The Belarussion, who already pulled out of this week’s Wuhan Open, said that she will take the time off to fully recuperate from a foot injury.

The two-time Grand Slam champion has been plagued with injuries this year which saw her ranking drop to number 25 as of today. She will likely be ranked outside of the world’s top 30 by the end of the year. She was ranked in the world’s top three in the year-end rankings for the past three years – No.3 in 2011, No.1 in 2012 and No.2 in 2013.
