Bob Bryan/Mike Bryan complete Career Golden Masters with Shanghai win

Brothers Bob and Mike Bryan became the first doubles team to complete a Career Golden Masters on Sunday after they won the Shanghai Rolex Masters for the first time. The pair have completed an achievement of winning at least one of the nine Masters events on the ATP calendar.

They’ve now won a total of 31 Masters 1000 title but the Shanghai title proved elusive for them until now when they’ve defeated reigning French Open champions Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Julien Benneteau 6-2, 7-6.

“To win here, it’s been a long time coming to Shanghai. To finally get across the finish line as the winning team was extra special today,” Mike Bryan said.

“It’s another great milestone. This week was full of them for us. To come and get in the title match, have a shot at winning the tournament that’s eluded us, complete the Golden Masters, is amazing,” Bob Bryan said.

“It was really the last thing left for us to do. We can definitely shut it down today and be happy guys.”

Despite the loss, Roger-Vasselin and Benneteau still has something to be happy about as their final run at this event qualified them for the year-end ATP World Tour Finals which will take place in London next month.

“It’s the showcase for doubles with the top eight squads competing. If you don’t do well, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth during the off season. You want to finish the year strong, put a cap on a successful season,” Mike Bryan said.
