Fabio Fognini slapped with $2,000 fine for obscene gesture

Italian Fabio Fognini has been slapped with a $2,000 fine for flashing an obscene gesture to the crowd earlier this week at the Shanghai Masters. Fognini lost to Wang Chuhan, a 553rd-ranked Chinese wildcard at this ATP Masters 1000 event.

The 17th-ranked showed his middle finger to the crowd after the match as he was leaving the stadium. He lost 6-7, 4-6 to a Chinese opponent who’s making his debut on the ATP Tour. He also gave the Wang a shove with his elbow after they shook hands at the net.

It was not the first time that Fognini has been fined for bad behaviour oncourt. He was fined $27,500 at Wimbledon earlier this year for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Wang would go on to lose his second round match to Tunisian qualifier Malek Jaziri 6-0, 6-4.
