Li Na named Offical Ambassador of WTA Finals Singapore

The WTA announced that recently-retired Chinese tennis superstar Li Na has been chosen as an Official Ambassador of the WTA Finals Singapore.

The two-time Grand Slam champion will join a stellar line-up of WTA Legends at the 2014 edition of the event which includes Chris Evert, Billie Jean King, Martina Navratilova, Marion Bartoli, Tracy Austin, Mary Pierce and Iva Majoli.

“We are excited to announce Li Na’s role as an Official Ambassador for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global, the first time in the event’s 44-year history it will be staged in Asia-Pacific,” said WTA Chairman & CEO Stacey Allaster.

“This will be a great opportunity for the fans from around the world over to get close to a tennis legend who has inspired a nation and done so much for the game in Asia Pacific. She has inspired a generation of young girls throughout Asia-Pacific with hopes that, they too, can achieve the dream of playing in the WTA Finals.”

Li will be in Singapore for the opening Fan Festival Weekend of the WTA Finals and will meet with fans throughout the event on October 19. The Fan Fest weekend is free of charge.

Li announced her retirement from the game on September 19, just a few days before her hometown event – the Wuhan Open made its debut. The Chinese star reached 21 WTA singles finals. She won two Grand Slam titles – 2011 Roland Garros and 2014 Australian Open. Her best finish at the US Open was semifinal and a quarterfinals at Wimbledon.
