Nadal to undergo surgery before ATP World Tour Finals – reports

Spanish broadcaster IB3 reported that 14-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal will undergo appendectomy, a surgery to remove the appendicitis, before the ATP World Tour Finals is set to begin in London this November. However, representatives of the Spanish tennis star refuted this report stating that Nadal intends to compete in the upcoming tournaments in Basel, Paris and London.

“Nadal will play Basel this upcoming week and depending on how he feels and the advice from his doctors will decide AFTER the tournament on his schedule,” a statement from Nadal’s public relations manager showed.

Nadal will jumpstart his 2015 season at an exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi in December but this is now put in doubt since recuperating time for this surgery could take up to a month.

Nadal is currently taking antibiotics to control the inflammation. He competed at the Shanghai Rolex Masters a week ago where he lost his opening match to compatriot Feliciano Lopez.

The Spaniard former world number one missed the North American hardcourt season after suffering from wrist injury. The inactivity led to his ranking to drop to number 3.
