Sesil Karatantcheva to play for Bulgaria once more

Former top 35 player Sesil Karatantcheva has decided to go back to her native country Bulgaria and will play for the European nation once again. In 2009, Karatantcheva represented Kazakhstan with her decision back then influenced by financial constraints on playing on tour. This development was reported by Vesti.kz news site.

“I have firmly decided to represent Bulgaria and I am ready to pay the forfeit on all the contracts. But I’m 95% sure that the agreement will be terminated by mutual consent. It is time to return home. I cannot wait to be back and play for my country,” Karatantcheva said.

“They offered me help when I was in need. I can laugh about these memories now, but back then it was far from funny. We had some serious issues with training,” Karatantcheva said about the decision.

She’s currently ranked 180th in the world. She reached a career-high ranking of 35 nine years ago when she was 16 years old. Her best Grand Slam performance was a quarterfinal showing at the 2005 French Open.
