The Garanti Koza WTA Tournament of Champions will take place from October 28 to November 2 and the organizers have announced the first three qualifiers for this event – Ekaterina Makarova, Andrea Petkovic and Dominika Cibulkova.
The $750,000 event marks the season-ending championships of the WTA International Series. The six players who have won at least one International-level titles and two wildcards (those who are not taking part in the WTA Finals Singapore) will be competing for a lion’s share of the prize money.
Makarova won in Pattaya City, Cibulkova at Acapulco and Petkovic at Bad Gastein. This will be the first time in their career that they’ll be competing at this event.
The past winners of the event include Aravane Rezai (2009 in Bali, Indonesia), Ana Ivanovic (2010 and 2011 in Bali), Nadia Petrova (2012 in Sofia Bulgaria) and Simona Halep (2013 in Sofia). Sofia will host the event for the final time this year as the tournament goes to Zuhai, China next year with a new format and bigger tournament prize money.
