Caroline Wozniacki qualifies for Boston Marathon 2015

Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki completed the New York City marathon in impressive time that she qualified for the Boston Marathon which will take place in April 2015.

Wozniacki, fresh from competing at the WTA Finals in Singapore two weeks ago, participated in her first marathon at the Big Apple for a good cause. She finished the race at 3 hours and 26 minutes. The cut off for the Boston Marathon was 3:35.

“After 15 kilometers, I was like, ‘Oh, I have to do another one.’ They said, ‘Wait, don’t say that yet. There’s still a long ways to go.’ At 20 miles, 6 miles left, I’m like, ‘I’m never running another marathon again.’ So I kind of changed my tune but just kept grinding out there.”

Other known tennis player to have participated in the marathon was Amelie Mauresmo, a two-time Grand Slam titlist. The Frenchwoman participated at the New York Marathon back in 2010 and clocked in at 3:40. She also participated at the 2012 Paris Marathon and ended the race in an impressive 3 hours and 16 minutes time.

“She told me it’s so hard, and she said, ‘I don’t understand how you can do this while you’re playing?’ She was encouraging me, but at the same time, she was shaking her head a little bit, thought I was a little crazy. I think I beat her time here, didn’t I? Wow, so, yeah, I’m proud of that,” Wozniacki said, revealing that she talked with Mauresmo prior to the race.

Wozniacki was greeted by close friend Serena Williams at the finish line.
