Federer, Wawrinka at odds ahead of Davis Cup final – reports

Reports have surfaced stating that Roger Federer and compatriot Stan Wawrinka are at odds following their semifinal match at the ATP World Tour Finals in London last Saturday. Federer won that tense match in a three-set thriller after fighting off four match points.

Photographers who were at the courtside during the aforementioned match reportedly to have heard Wawrinka making remarks against Federer’s wife Mirka, apparently due to the timing of her cheers which seemed to affect Wawrinka’s play. A French television network stated that Wawrinka said “She also did it at Wimbledon” in French. Wawrinka and Federer competed against each other at Wimbledon quarterfinals earlier this year.

Further fueling speculations is ESPN2 commentator John McEnroe who said that there’s been a lengthy discussion between the players after the match.

“Something went on in the locker room, there was a long talk between the players that extended well into the night,” McEnroe said. “And the stress of that—I can’t confirm all of this—but… I don’t think that helped.”

As everyone already know by now, Federer pulled out of the final where he gave an on-court speech and provided an interview to the ATP. However, he declined to have a press conference regarding this development.

Federer and Wawrinka will be heading to Lille, France for the Davis Cup final and if the reports are true, they might not do well in this very important tournament. Switzerland has yet to win the Davis Cup and Federer and Wawrinka could make this happen this weekend, or not.
