Maria Sharapova to play for Fed Cup in 2015

World number two Maria Sharapova will reportedly take part in the upcoming Fed Cup tie versus Poland in February. This was reported by Tennis.com this week. The Russia vs Poland tie will take place from February 7 to 8, 2015.

The last time Sharapova took part in Fed Cup was back in 2012. She defeated Silvia Soler-Espinosa of Spain in Moscow.

The reason for the move was for Sharapova to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics. She must play a Fed Cup tie in 2015 in order to qualify.

The Polish team will likely have sixth-ranked Agnieszka Radwanska in the mix. In 2014, Radwanska helped her team return to the World Group, winning three matches against Sweden and three matches against Spain to reach the elite group.

Reports surfaced that the tie will take place in Krakow, Poland in a new stadium that can accommodate up to 15,000 people.
