Muguruza stops Kerber in Singapore

Garbiñe Muguruza is now almost assured a place in the semifinals of the WTA Finals Singapore after securing her second win at this prestigious year-end competitions. The Spaniard defeated Germany’s Angelique Kerber 6-4, 6-4 in a match that lasted an hour and 39 minutes. This is Muguruza’s first time to qualify for the year-end championships in singles.

Muguruza has had wins against Kerber this season with close wins at the French Open, Wimbledon and Wuhan Open.

“Every time I step on the court against Angelique I know it’s going to be difficult, so I just have to give my best if I’m going to get the victory,” Muguruza said.

Muguruza will next face Petra Kvitova and will aim to lead the White Group with a 3-0 record.

“I’m really motivated to be here because it’s my first time in Singapore singles! So I really want to come here and win all the matches I can and hopefully go far,” Muguruza said.
