Petra Kvitova defeats good friend Safarova to go 1-1 in Singapore

2011 champion Petra Kvitova is now on board at the WTA Finals Singapore on Wednesday with a tough win against good friend and fellow Czech Lucie Safarova. Kvitova lost her opening round robin match to Angelique Kerber and her win against her Fed Cup teammate 7-5, 7-5 means she’s now 1-1 in the standings.

“I’m really glad that I was able to play and win that kind of match after my loss in the first match here,” Kvitova said.

The match seemed headed for a third set when Safarova led 3-0 in the second but Kvitova bounced back and secured the victory in the end.

“For sure it was a difficult match. I know that Lucie wasn’t really healthy weeks ago and I’m just happy that she’s here as well,” Kvitova said. “It’s great to have two Czechs in the WTA Finals.”
