Agnieszka Radwanska books final berth in Singapore

Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska booked a place in the final of the WTA Finals Singapore after defeating Garbiñe Muguruza of Spain in a thrilling three set marathon 6-7(5), 6-3, 7-5. This is Radwanska’s 50th win of the season.

Radwanska entered the semifinal stage as somewhat of an underdog. She lost her past four meetings to Muguruza this season (Sydney, Dubai, Wimbledon, Beijing). She was emotional during the on-court interview.

“I have no words to say really,” Radwanska said as the crowd cheered.

“I didn’t know if I could come back after that first set, but I think it was a great match from the beginning until the end, so many rallies and a lot of running. I’m just so glad I could win this match in the end.

“After two losses in the beginning I thought it was kind of over for me here. Then I was just cheering for Maria, and she did a good job helping me get to the semifinal. I hope I can keep going now.”

Radwanska became only the third player this year to win fifty matches or more (Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber). The sixth-ranked tennis star will also exceed the $20 million mark in career prize money by reaching the final.
