SanTina wins WTA Finals 2015 doubles title

The formidable doubles team this season – Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza – won the doubles title at the WTA Finals Singapore on Sunday. The world’s top doubles team, who now come up with a monicker “SanTina,” defeated Spaniards Garbiñe Muguruza and Carla Suárez Navarro 6-0, 6-3.

Hingis and Mirza have now won their 22nd consecutive match which spanned six tournaments. Their last defeat was way back in August in Cincinnati to sisters Chan Hao-Ching and Chan Yung-Jan (also participated in Singapore). Muguruza and Suarez Navarro were late replacements in the doubles draw after the withdrawal of Yaroslava Shvedova and Casey Dellacqua.

“It’s incredible. I feel like it was a perfect day,” Hingis said. “The energy was a bit better in practice and Sania just played out of her mind – she was everywhere today – on her side, behind me – it’s about choosing the right partner!”

“On court, off court, we have a lot of fun,” Mirza said. “To play in tournaments like this is what we’ve fought all our lives for and it’s incredible to play in front of a packed stadium.

“We feel very fortunate. We’ve done some amazing things together and it’s the perfect way to end the year for us.”
