Wimbledon: Pokemon Go released in United Kingdom

Mobile game Pokemon Go became a worldwide phenomenon and the more users are expected to sign up following the release of the app in the United Kingdom this week.

The game was already available for download in the United States, Australia, New Zeland and Germany. However, some users in the UK have already downloaded the game in advance by getting past the restriction in other means.

The Pokemon Go app allows the players to roam around the mapped vicinity using their smartphones’ GPS location data and catch Pokemon characters to train and battle. Nintendo, the part owner of the massive franchise, saw its value increase tenfold following the release of the game.

There have been reports that the demand for the app has been high that there are problems in registering. New users can sign up using their existing Google account.

“The enthusiastic response to the launch of Pokemon Go has been tremendous and inspiring. We’re aware of the server issues that our players have been experiencing and are working around the clock to resolve them as soon as possible,” the app developers behind the game said in a statement.

There’s been multitude of Youtube videos showing how to play the game and it is expected to grow as Pokemon Go becomes more accessible to other countries.

With the release of Pokemon Go in the United Kingdom, it won’t come as a surprise that users will get Pokemon characters in major tourist and sporting sites such as the All England Club, where the Wimbledon Championships are held.

The Wimbledon Championships recently concluded last week with Great Britain’s Andy Murray winning the men’s title while Serena Williams of United States won her seventh trophy at the All England Club where she finally achieved the elusive 22nd Grand Slam title to equal the haul of Steffi Graf.
