11th-ranked Karolina Pliskova is having a resurgence in the second half of the season. She’s reached two finals during the grasscourt season, winning one (Nottingham). She also made remarkable strides during the North American hardcourt season – winning her first WTA Premier 5 tournament at the Western & Southern Open (d. Angelique Kerber) and backed it up with a Grand Slam final appearance at the US Open this week where she will face Kerber once more for the title.

In a rematch of the Western & Southern Open final which took place nearly a month ago, champion Karolina Pliskova will face Angelique Kerber for the US Open women’s singles title.
World number two Angelique Kerber will attempt to break free from the back to back runner-up finishes at the Olympics and Cincinnati and clinch her second career Grand Slam title after winning her first earlier this year at the Australian Open in Melbourne. Cincinnati champion Karolina Pliskova of Czech Republic has never gone past the third round of a Grand Slam event before now. She’s continued her momentum in New York and even took out 22-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams in the semifinals.
