Angelique Kerber can breach $10 million mark in 2016 season earnings

World number one Angelique Kerber can match another achievement set by Serena Williams.

At this week’s WTA Finals, Kerber can become only the second woman tennis player in history to breach the $10 million mark in single season earnings with a strong run in Singapore. As of October 17, 2016, Kerber has earned $8.7 million in prize money thanks to a strong run in Grand Slams this season (winning Australian Open & US Open and reaching the Wimbledon final).

The winner in Singapore will earn $ 1.75 million plus the prize money earned in round robin stages ($ 153,000 per match win). Each of the eight finalists are already assured of a $ 151,000 paycheck as participation fee.

Kerber can earn more than $ 2 million if she’s undefeated in Singapore and can even break the $ 11 million mark. Serena Williams does still hold the record for the single-season prize money earned with $ 12.4 million back in 2013.
