Prague Open set to offer wildcard to Maria Sharapova

Maria Sharapova is all set to make a major comeback in 2017 following the reduction of her ban from professional tennis from 24 months to 15 months. This means that her ban expires on April 26, 2017. The earliest tournament that she can compete in is at the week beginning May 1, 2017. April 26 falls on a Wednesday which means it is in the middle of competition at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart (a Premier event) and Istanbul Cup (International).

The tournaments on the week starting May 1 are two International-level events: The J&T Banka Prague Open in Prague and the Grand Prix De SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem in Rabat, Morocco.

According to this report, the Prague Open officials are set to offer a wildcard to the five-time Grand Slam champion.

“Adding a player of Maria’s calibre to the field would be very attractive,” said Tournament Director Petra ?ernošková
